Tried & Tasted: Agnès b. Le Pain Grille at Causeway Bay

Hey guys! Here's more food p*rn for you guys to drool over... Agnès b. Le Pain Grille recently reopened on Leighton Road, Causeway Bay and renewing their menu with some light french casual cuisine. It's so much more than cakes and fro-yos, and you're about to find out just how good it is!

With an all new renovated interior, the new resto is here to impress. It's simple and slightly industrial, with ample retro giant lightbulbs and unpainted concrete walls. Huge windows means a lot of natural lighting coming from outside, and a great place to relax with couple of friends with cakes and coffees to spare. The alfresco area would be a lot more appropriate later in the year, and absolutely perfect for people watchers like me! (Just instead of Paris, it's CWB.)

We started off with some fresh juices, which are a blend of exotic and tropical fruits made to order. We were dying for a drink in the summer heat so this was very refreshing and lovely!

Next came the Mussels simmered in white wine, shallot & cream, served with french fries. This dish along with three others (egg cocotte with bacon and escargots) are part of a special menu called La Loggia (bis), all served in collaboration with Le Creuset cookware. I love the bright happy orange pot the yummy dish came in, but even more the creamy and aromatic baby mussels and golden crunchy fries. Make sure you dip the fries in the sauce to get the best out of the dish!

My favourite dish of the day must've been the cod with ratatouille Provencal, cooked in papillote. It's true that fish cooked in this style all wrapped up in butter paper, made sure that all the juices stayed in and the fish is moist. The dish came out steaming and the cod was cooked to perfection on top of a bed of diced vegetables. The ratatouille gave the dish a tomato-y flavour to the dish which contrasted with the cod's buttery texture. In short, YUM.

The last savoury dish we had was a Galette, or french savoury crepe. We chose Ratatouille Provencal as the topping just to keep the meal light, but this was not the best dish of the meal. The crepe came  in crispy but was quickly soaked through in the ratatouille sauce, which made it soggy. We also though the crepe was a little bit too bitter and didn't go with the taste of the topping. Although we think other toppings with seafood and cream sauce might fare better reviews.

To end things on a sweet note, we chose some cakes to taste. Sorry I forgot the pretty names of our cakes, but mine was an earl grey mousse cake with a dark chocolate exterior and my friend picked a mango mousse cake with a gooey center. We enjoyed both immensely and I was especially impressed with the lovely earl grey flavour which went really well with the dark chocolate!

The prices overall are affordable, with main dishes at around $150-$200 and under $100 for light snacks, plus all day breakfast on the menu too!
