Hey guys! Gonna start a new series called Tried & Tasted. Since I'm a super foodie at heart, I'm always out hunting for food that's good both in value and taste round the 852.
After a loooong day at the Sassy Mama pop-up sale, I went to try Pho 24 at Shatin New Town Plaza. Normally I'm not a big fan of Hong Kong's Vietnamese food, 'cause the cheap ones are usually just oily pork/chicken chops slathered in spring onion oil popped on top of rice. But this time I was pretty surprised at the quality!
Me and my friend ordered the prawn & veg rice paper roll, chicken rice set and sweet and sour pork chop rice with steamed egg cake.
The paper roll was the usual Vietnamese must-have snack, but it wasn't super amazing. The sauce is sweet sauce topped with garlic and chilli flakes, although I normally prefer it with the sweet and sour chilli sauce (the super liquid-y and has to be shaken one)
The chicken rice set came with yellow ginger rice and veggies fried with garlic on the side. So-so in general, but the chicken leg (extra $10) was pretty moist and well cooked. Wasn't a big fan of the ginger rice since I usually have my chicken with oiled rice.
My friend's pork chop rice was the best of three! The sweet and sour sauce was mouth-watering, and the pork chop wasn't oily at all. The extra steamed egg with pork plus a sunny-side-up was perfect with the white rice and overall it was good value for money.
We didn't order drinks cause they were quite overpriced, but I suspect they are just the usual iced lemon teas...
if tl;dr:
Must have: Sweet & Sour pork chop rice
So-so: Chicken rice set
Want to try: Soft-shell crab rice paper roll
Price point: around HK$100 per person
p.s. excited to share many restaurants with you guys! Stay tuned.
xx
