Tried & Tasted: Outback Steakhouse

Hey guys! Time to switch it up a bit with some food :) Tried and Tasted is back, this time heading to Outback Steakhouse over at Causeway Bay.

Normally a total carnivore, I do love me some steak once in a while. We were thinking of not-super-expensive dining places in cwb, and my friend was craving for meat so we headed here to try out what they're famous for.

Black sugar bread I think this was? (Direct translation from its chinese alias anyway). Super yummy with cream cheese spreaded on top, kind of sweet on it's own and a lovely (complimentary) appetiser that has earn much approval from Openrice crowds.

Caesar salad that came as a combo... As you can tell it's just a borderline passing salad at best, smouldered in salad dressing. Although quite a big portion, I feel like it's quite unnecessary. You can add prawn/grilled chicken to it when ordering a-la-carte but I think there are better alternatives.

My friend's steak with mushroom and prawn cream sauce, and baked potato and sweet potato as sides. When this was served we both gasped in horror, it looked a plating mess and tasted like one too. The sauce was way to heavy and overwhelming while the steak was overcooked. The potatoes topped with even more cream cheese meant that this plate was a heavy and filling one.

My order of lamb chops with veggies and mashed potatoes as sides was much more pleasing to the eyes and taste. Cooked tenderly and medium raw as a I requested, it was juicy and didn't have a nasty aftertaste. Veggies were refreshing and the mash was creamy, made out of real potatoes instead of a powder mix. Didn't need the mushroom sauce that came on the side, but you can choose different sauces to your liking.

TL;DR?
Pros: Nice upstairs resto with floor-to-ceiling windows; alright pricing for a steak dinner (~$200 per person); lovely lamb chops and huge servings; not too noisy and good for dinner dates.

Cons: I really don't know what happened to the steak and its plating... And the food is alright but not superb, so if you're a picky eater going for quality steak and wine then maybe Wooloomooloo would be a better choice!

Till next time,
xx
